To start you will need the following materials:

  • 2 - Tri-Tip Erasers
  • 1 - Sharpener or Utility Knife
  • 1 - 18x24 inches 30 Sheet Drawing Pad 
  • 2 - Soft Pastel Rembrandt ( 1 Black, 1 White)
  • 1 - Pencil Box
  • 2 - 19x25 inches Canson Pro Drawing Paper
  • 4 - Clips
  • 1 - 22x28 inches Foam Board

Drawing Starter Kit

Here is a rundown of what to expect during this 16-hour workshop.



Class 1: Lines – The Pencil
  • Objective: Develop foundational drawing mechanics by focusing on smooth, confident strokes.
  • Activities:
    • Practice straight and curved lines.
    • Explore variations in line weight and flow.
  • Outcome: Gain control over your tools and establish comfort with freehand drawing.

Class 2: 2D Lines & Shapes
  • Objective: Understand and create basic shapes as the building blocks for drawing.
  • Activities:
    • Draw circles, squares, triangles, and more.
    • Combine shapes to form simple compositions.
    • Experiment with proportions and scaling.
  • Outcome: Recognize how 2D shapes translate into complex forms on paper..

Class 3: Character Drawing
  • Objective: Apply shape theory to sketch basic character designs.
  • Activities:
    • Learn character proportions (head, body, limbs).
    • Explore pose and gesture basics.
  • Outcome: Draw  your first character design using foundational shapes and lines.

Class 4: See The Light 
  • Objective: Learn the principles of light and shadow by working with a sphere.
  • Activities:
    • Study a light source and its effect on a spherical and cube object.
    • Practice shading techniques to show light, mid-tones, and shadow.
    • Create depth using value gradients.
  • Outcome: Understand how light interacts with all surfaces.

Class 5: Stills 
  • Objective: Transition to outlining still life subjects.
  • Activities:
    • Set up and sketch simple available objects.
    • Emphasize accurate proportions and contour lines.
    • Explore negative space and composition planning.
  • Outcome: Develop an eye for detail and structure in still-life drawing.

Class 6: The Human Form
  • Objective: Learn the basics of human body structure and proportions.
  • Activities:
    • Practice drawing simplified human figures.
    • Focus on posture, balance, and gesture.
    • Work on connecting body parts (torso, limbs, head).
  • Outcome: Create proportional and dynamic body outlines.

Class 7: The Human Face 
  • Objective: Dive into facial proportions and expression basics.
  • Activities:
    • Map the face using guidelines for eyes, nose, mouth, and ears.
    • Sketch basic head angles (front, profile, ¾ view).
    • Explore simple expressions using line work.
  • Outcome: Draw a well-proportioned and expressive face outline.

Class 8: Light & Shadow – Start Your Own
  • Objective: Combine all learned techniques to create your own composition.
  • Activities:
    • Choose a subject of your interest (e.g., still life, character, animal, portrait).
    • Apply composition, shading, light, and shadow techniques.
    • Receive personalized feedback on your final project.
  • Outcome: Complete a drawing showcasing your mastery of light, shadow, and composition.

 
This program progressively builds core skills and empowers you to create your first independent piece.
